The low budget feature film The Board has begun shooting. Read about it in their production diary

James (not verified) wrote: Tue, 16/05/2006 - 12:24

Hi my name is James and i was one of the camera persons on the shoot for 'The Board'. In regards to wish crafts comments in 'production diary part 3' about 'others thinking they we're the director' this is a load of rubbish!!! Where shall i start!? the fact that there we're no shots planned! Actors who had come as far as Denmark where sat around all day doing nothing, moral was extremly low and when me my girlfreind Hayley, ian our second camera person actually sat down and planned 4 scenes to be shot that night, wish craft just sulked all night like a child. We wern't trying to take over his project we just wanted him to be more organised, tell people what to do, what he wants us to do instead of assembling everybody down the pub to do nothing, he didn't even introduce me to the actors and other crew members i had to do that off my own back! I really hope for the kids at the cancer wards sake that this goes well because this is the last time i'll be working with wish craft.

hey, to second what james said i was also involved in this project at one point, and have now pulled out due to the cloak and dagger deception that the whole thing has been surrounded in!!! this could have been a really good and exciting project for all involved if it was undertaken in the correct manner. It goes to show its one thing having a good idea for a low to no budget movie but its another thing to try and make it in 4 months! planning, organisation and teamwork is the key (also story boards dont go amiss) but still i wish all involved the best of luck and i hope it does make money for the kids cause they deserve it. i'd also like to take a moment to mention the actors who throughout have been so tolerant and ture professionals good luck to all.

Wish (not verified) wrote: Tue, 23/05/2006 - 17:31

Well, this production diary was supposed to be based on actual events taking place to help others, not to put down others who get on with the job. I have held back on how I felt and what these people actually got up to.

There were various problems, ranging from ruined shots with useless zooms that cut off people's heads, promises of jobs to be done (none of which were) and people wanting their ideas included and not accepting no as an answer.

I refuse to lower myself to the level shown as I am a prodessional and see that there are more important things to be done, such as make a film. This is a website for those interested in making films and this is what you all want to read about - I'm sure.

What this does do though is show all of you that you really do need to find people who will work in a professional manner, don't just select people to try and help them and give them a chance.

Clare - Kerry! (not verified) wrote: Tue, 23/05/2006 - 19:28

Just thought I'd add something of my own chirpy nature to the site! I'd like to say that I've been here since day 1 of the shoot and am really happy to be a part of this project. On the first day myself and Paul (playing Simon) were shown round the Piam Brown ward and it was heart warming and inspiring to see how we can make a difference to someones life via our acting work.

Then it was time for karaoke and a little light releif from our long journey to Southampton, an ideal way to break the ice for the cast and crew. Didn't drink too much though coz of filming next day! Drunk enough to sing the time warp in a very tone deaf manner though!

Next day was baptism of fire for me because we shot my most intense scene, I won't say what because I don't want to ruin the film but lets just say it involved being covered in alot of blood! I felt very happy with the way this went and Kim (Axel) was great to work with, he was fantastic on all his lines even though it's his second language, he's a fabulous and generous actor.

I won't go on because it's reading like a diary entry now, I'll finish by saying that all the cast and crew are very friendly and a pleasure to work with and well done to Wish and Slyv for embarking on this unselfish venture and keeping me well fed!! (All Hail actresses who dare to bare curves!)

Sylv (not verified) wrote: Tue, 23/05/2006 - 20:07

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Elspeth our camera lady for the first week who worked really well, a real professional, during her time with us. Also a thank you to Ian, our DoP, for helping us out, giving us advice when it was needed.

I want to say a big thank you to all our cast, Kim (he travelled all the way from Denmark), Clare, Paul, Kim, Marcus, Nadine, Sally, James, Russ, and also to my two little ones Helyn and Rhys. Our cast all met for the first time at the beginning of the shooting and just hit it off and we all have become really good friends.

There have been a few problems during the first week of filming but this hasn't stopped the success of the overal project.

Sylv (not verified) wrote: Tue, 23/05/2006 - 20:11

Another thank you to John who came over from the Isle of Wight to appear in The Board.

james (not verified) wrote: Wed, 24/05/2006 - 14:21

um, ok?! do i detect some air of contradiction? wish says that hes a proffesional and that people only want to read the facts, why dont you stop lying and tell people what exactly happenend? I wasn't slating anybody just "giving the facts" about how i felt and a number of other people felt on the supposedly first day of shooting.

Apprently one of the various problems that occured on the first day was the shots! If wish craft had been present maybe they would have been more to his liking, where were you?!! To busy singing karaoke!!! There were no promises made by anybody! Be a director, give us some fucking direction!! The ideas we submitted to wish craft were given the go ahead if he had said NO we would have listened because at the end of the day he is the director.

The thing ive learnt from this is you need to find people (when making your first feature) who are on your level, who you can trust and soak in any ideas that are thrown at you, this works both ways whether your a director or crew member. The other important ingrediant, that was so greatly overlooked on this project, is planning and communication. Is it that hard to let people know whats happening when and where? Oh shit i cant, i forgot to put together a scheduale, oops!

Im not denying that the rest of the shoot has gone well, i cant comment because i havn't been there. I will say this though, i am entitiled to an opnion and i had some valid points to make about the first day of shooting, im sorry i wont just sit on the fence and let wish craft lie about the way this project has been compiled and interpreted on the production diaries.

Saying all that i wish the very best to the cast and crew i hope they all gain the experiance they need to use for future projects.

I'm looking forward to the next installment of The Board's production diary–it sounds like a lot has happened.

James, as the cliche goes; there's no use crying over spilt milk. It sounds like the people who stuck around are getting something out of it.

I guess there has been a learning curve for a lot of people, but that's to be expected in a project like this isn't it? Anyway, come on Wish, give us the next full diary entry so we can read the goary details...

Ed.

Paul - Simon (not verified) wrote: Thu, 25/05/2006 - 00:58

Settle down me dears!!! O.K, James, firstly you are in the right for much of what you say- day one was highly questionable, a lot of sitting around and not much shooting... but then, it was the first day and i did feel that I got to know the people i was to work with very well (for better or worse! - mostly better) which is VERY important.

As Clare ( Kerry - she's great!- as are Conan, Kim, Ian,Marcus, john and all ) pointed out, going to the ward was a real eye opener as well (Sylv & Wish - well done for deciding to give to such a worthy cause) and made me feel very positive of the whole project.

Shooting then - as with any Low/No budget production there are bound to be problems -inevitable, some of them are gonna really bugger you up! But, that said, the majority of the shooting was successfull, i feel good about the playback iv'e seen and I went home when i expected with it all done - fine by me! Oh! I also died a good death - my mother well be proud!

So, to conclude this middle of the night rant and go to bed, i would just like to wish everybody the best of luck in the future and, to those who have twelve foot monkey's growing inside and feeding upon the narcissistic cleg-nuts of your anus - get over it!

simon (not verified) wrote: Thu, 25/05/2006 - 17:28

up until now i haven't wanted to publicly say anything because it is such a worthy cause. as for wish saying he got people on board to help them out, that is load of lies, he approached people for their help because he was out of his depth!! so wish with all the lies that are being thrown around maybe you can truthfully tell us how you managed to get the equipment?
look forward to seeing the finished version, so we can all see what a fabulous director you are.

[This comment is not by Wish]

ok time to come clean. I've been really low! hitting the booze just to feel normal. Now i've skided along the floor, i'am rock bottom. Its a break down. Help help me.

[Wish has confirmed that this comment is falsely attributed to himself. Making comments in this way is a particulary unpleasent and childish way to behave. UKFilm.org offers it's apologies to Wish and it's scorn to the imposter.]

Elana (not verified) wrote: Thu, 25/05/2006 - 17:51

I am so angry with all the production team! i tried my best to pull everyone together before we started the shoot to discuss what problems there were and what potential problems we might encounter! i put effort, time, and even bloody tears into this project just like everyone else did! i wont be classed as a power hungry pre-madonna when i tried so hard to just be there to help! i did everything that was asked of me and what i couldn't do i explained to the 2 in charge. i was happy with my own contribution however minor and thought everyone else was too. maybe its just best to keep friends out of projects like this.
plus i think it is good people are posting their views, and i also agree with Ed i have been keeping an eye on the production diary waiting to see how its going for you all.
just because i have no more involvement doesnt mean i dont want it to do well, after all i have seen it go through many stages of development. so keep it up, and lets just say that if anybody else has anything to say pick up a phone and deal with it personally and lets stop airing dirty washing in public.

Russ (not verified) wrote: Thu, 25/05/2006 - 21:18

Boy have I had enough of this bullshit. wow did we have some little children fighting over the toys on this project! People who were asked to sort out simple things couldnt stop asking everyone else what THEY had done. Erm....get your own work done before you start bossing. This is Wish's first film, Its not easy, its scary and I think he's doing a fine Job. Next thing....ITS ZERO BUDGET, yes there was alot of sitting about on the first day, but maybe its what we all needed, I think it really created a bond with everyone. When people had stopped using zooms that ruined shots and saying 'im not doing it if we dont do it this way' to the director, thats right folks, someone had the nerve to say that to the director! On a Zero budget movie, there isnt really room for personality clashes and small minded people, its basically...help us out! we all know what this is being made for and what happened? the people who didnt get alot done and walk all over the director ended up quitting!
I have been with the movie long than most of the cast and I have enjoyed it immensly. things are shakey, but hey....ill say it again, ITS ZERO BUDGET. I'm with Paul on the fact that alot of people should pull their heads out of their asses! Anyway children, lets not spoil this whole thing by leaving nasty messeges on this site! and everyone should know this, as someone who knows Wish pretty well, I can tell you, he is NOT liar. Anyway, good luck to the film and everyone who is busting their asses off. More fool those who never gave it a chance. The Board Rules and everyones doing a super job!

Sylv (not verified) wrote: Thu, 25/05/2006 - 22:05

How strange that a message appeared from Wish at 17.44 today especially as he was out filming!

This has got very childish, lets just let people enjoy reading about The Board and not boring them with little children throwing toys out of their pram.

Russ (not verified) wrote: Thu, 25/05/2006 - 22:10

your kidding me? I didnt even look at the time on this thing. Well to be honest I thought it WAS wish, but being funny just to humour the idiots.....that would have been cool, luckily we dont have to make fun of the idiots as their already giving us enough to laugh at! I'm not saying anymore, but some should really grow the hell up.

Elana (not verified) wrote: Fri, 26/05/2006 - 00:21

who the hell said "i'm not doing it if we dont do it this way" ? please do not address the people who have quit all together as i said before if you have a point to make, make it personally! dont hide behind messages and emails say what you feel to the people involved and if you consider it stupid posting on here, dont! i have spoken to a few involved and the only reason they have posted on here is because it is a way to vent fustration and put across their side of the events.

Kim - April (not verified) wrote: Fri, 26/05/2006 - 08:03

The hostility on here is palpable and I dont think it is doing anyone any good!

For the people still putting their time and energies into the film, I understand that you want to defend yourselves and your project. You care about it and want to let everyone know that. It is the first attempt at something like this, and obviously some things are going to be a little bit wonky. Thats just the way things happen. It is a learning curve. And for the most part I thought everyone knew that before getting involved. You are trying to do a very difficult thing, for the first time, with no budget - and for a good cause. Let that be what gets you through the next little while. Any petty battles fought on here are just taking time away from focusing on your film.

Those who are no longer putting in a hand on set, thats fine. You have chosen what you obviously thought was the best thing for you to do. I respect that and respect your opinions, but getting worked up over anything now wont do anyone a favour. Wish and Sylv are trying now to pull the material they have together into the coherent substance that is a film... probably one of the hardest parts about making a film! Bickering about what happened on set on the first day isnt accomplishing anything.

Any experience is good experience and no matter what you take from it, learn from it! I have walked away from this with a lot. And hope that everyone else has too.

Regardless, a professional is engaged (whether through contract or verbal agreement, for a large project or small) to act a certain way when involved in a production. Lets all try to do that.

Wish (not verified) wrote: Fri, 26/05/2006 - 09:07

Hi everybody,

As you will see from the production that I'll be writing tonight, this is not affecting how things are going and it is just a shame that this has to go on and on like the energiser bunny.

I refuse to be drawn into this discussion, as I feel that it would be a waste of my time and energy to do so.

As those involved know what is going on behind the scenes, which is notgoing to be discussed here by me, I will continue to help this charity and also Fairbridge Solent on a seperate charity event talent show on Sunday, no matter how he tries to put a spanner in the proverbial works.

In the end, we all have a job to do and that is to make a film and raise money for charity. Everything else is just a useless waste of our time and energy.

I would liketo thank everybody who has been involved in this project since the beginning and hopethat we can allget on with our lives without having to resort to returning to play school.

Clare/Kerry (not verified) wrote: Fri, 26/05/2006 - 15:00

Hello!

I'll try again to lighten up this site and hope everyone follows suite. I'd like to thank Kim, Paul and Russ for their positive comments and I'd like to hear from other cast members who havn't posted yet on their experiences while on this project. I have one last scene to shoot now and am really looking forward to seeing the finished product at the Apollo cinema in Southampton on July 15th. The rushes are looking good! Looking forward to the wrap party yeahey!

Nadine (not verified) wrote: Fri, 26/05/2006 - 15:14

Hi,
I play Donna in this movie and have been here since day 1. I have to say that even though we got off to a rocky start (and to be honest what production doesn't), it has all come together brilliantly. I have seen some of the footage already and it is looking good! I finished my scenes today and I ended with my death scene and it was such fun to do especially as I had to pretend tobe freaked out at the moving pontoon when it was not moving very fast. All in all I would have to say that it has been a whole lot of fun and a great experience for me and for everyone else involved. I think that Wish has learnt a lot and has become a very competent director (contrary to what others think!) and I look forward to seeing the finished product and Wish's next project. Well done to everyone!!!

Marcus (not verified) wrote: Fri, 26/05/2006 - 15:58

Hey there,
How is everyone??? I play Alan in the film ( one of the lead roles WOO-HOO!!! ) There had been soooo much negativity on this site and i don't want to go on about it cause it's taking away from the good this film is doing for the Piam Brown Ward but yes there were teething problems in the beginning but that happens in mega budget productions as well and we are ALL starting out in this venture and learning loads so no-one has the right to feel ' hard done by ' and to post things pretending to be someone else.

Sorry, didn't want to say that cause it sounds bitchy but I just had to say it NOW lets talk about me :))) I arrived on the 3rd day and I am a shy guy and first days on set can be freaky but Sylv,Joe and the guys staying here ( Kim, Paul and Clare ) were so nice and open I felt welcomed from the beginning and we all started re-hearsing from the start. My first day on set was great fun, the rest of the cast and crew were lovely and people were sharing ideas on how to film it but there were no major hassles and people were getting on with it.

I know in this industry there can be egos and when you feel your idea is the best there can be clashes but you also need the ability to see if that idea works and be able to handle constructive critisism. I am very proud to have been part of this film, not only for the Piam Brown Ward but because this film has been the biggest learning curve for me yet, personal and professional, and the people in charge and who have stuck by us all believe we are onto a winner with this film, so thank you all for your commitment, openness, honesty and the best damn hugs i've had in a long time :))))

james (not verified) wrote: Fri, 26/05/2006 - 16:49

As far as im concerned the issue is finished! but one last question? what is that name 'wish' about? he must be some sort of knob.

Anonymous (not verified) wrote: Fri, 26/05/2006 - 17:04

If the issue is closed than stop posting comments on and going on about it! The shooting is finished now and there is no need to keep on writing rude comments about wish. Who cares what his name is or what he has decided to call himself. The point is that he has made a pretty decent film to raise money for dying children. Now isnt what this was all about to begin with? Not world war 3. GET OVER IT!!!

Clare/Kerry (not verified) wrote: Fri, 26/05/2006 - 21:36

Ahrgh! There's always one isn't there! If you hate it so much stay off the damn web page doh! Any how we're wrapped and early too! Now we've come up with the next idea for a comedy TV Pilot for a sitcom and we wrote the plot for the first episode already ready to shoot in August. Watch this space!! By the way I had a blonde moment earlier and the cinemas in Fareham!

Elana (not verified) wrote: Fri, 26/05/2006 - 21:57

good for you guys! glad your wrapped and early too! as for the next project good luck with that too, although a very hostile sit com could be made from all the posts on here lol (sorry had to be the first one to take the p**s out of us all) humm i can see it now trials and tribulations of film making. i think its a winner!
no on a serious note i never once wished you bad and i'm glad you made it to the finish line against all odds, well done all.

Sylv (not verified) wrote: Fri, 26/05/2006 - 22:05

a big thank you to Elana for that last message, and thank you for the good luck with the new project too.

Hi Everyone,

I've posted the next episode of The Board's production diary

Apologies to Wish and our readers for the delay in posting; Wish sent me the content last Sunday. A couple of days ago I commented that I wanted to read the next episode—all along it was sitting in my inbox.

Big thanks to Wish and other The Board crew and cast for contirbuting to the site (with remarkable constraint constraint considering some of the remarks). There are always nay-sayers, and the web is a fantastic medium for them: when I came to ukfilm.org this morning and saw that this thread had 26 replies, I immeadiatly went into moderator mode and got ready for saying some strong official-type warnings (we're new at this too... ). But I'm really glad to see the thread is civil and positive now.

I would ask everyone involved to consider signing up or logging in when they post. It's quick and free. This first of all makes sure that the people posting are who they say they are, and secondly helps you to keep up to date with threads as you can choose to subscribe to a threads comments. Please consider using the other features of the site too: if anyone has any film related events coming up consider entering them in our new Calendar (enough sales now)

Again a big thanks to The Board for contributing to ukfilm.org in such an open and honest way. It makes for both fascinating reading a I'm sure will be invalueable to anone starting a similar project.

Hi Guys.... Just read all the comments from everyone, and I must say that for something that is very worthwhile and to help those that can't help themselves.. Some of the comments on here are the lowest I have seen. Dollies out of the pram is an understatement. Maybe one day when they have all grown up and become adults then they will realise what this project was truly about. I have done a few things now for TV and this was no different. You waited you filmed and the job gets done.... End of story.
I would like to say to all the cast and crew, that is was a real pleasure to meet with you and to work with you all. You are all true professionals and hope that one day our paths will cross agian for another project.
Wish and Sylv what a lovely couple it was a pleasure to travel across the water and be part of the fantastic project. Wish was a fantastic director and I would have no problems traveling anywhere to work with him again.. It was fun and I made some great new friends.. Thank you all...
I wish you all the very best of luck in your next projects and hope to see some of you at the premier.. Wish , Sylv Thank you for letting me be part of this fantastic film. See you all very soon... John (Jack)

Hi. I had nothing to do with this film and have just randomly come on to this site. However i would just like to say i have very much enjoyed the drama and have laughed quite a lot! i might come to the screening just to watch the fireworks!

Kim - April (not verified) wrote: Wed, 31/05/2006 - 15:26

hopefully see you there!

Anonymous (not verified) wrote: Wed, 31/05/2006 - 17:41

If thats the case howcome you lot moan like mutha fuckers about someone having an opnion? I've been following this story for a while and have only just decided to comment about what i see. I think that there is some really suspect things going on and all is not what it seems, there is obviously some serious issues between wish craft and a couple of the ex crew members that only they seem to know about, then all of a sudden actors and actresses are getting involved sticking up for wish craft when they obviously hav'nt got a clue what has been said or done. Its funny because the only person who has added any value to this comments page is james and he's only posted twice!! Wish craft said that people want to hear the facts, well from what i've seen this is exactly what james has written. Its nice to see that at least one person has stuck up for him i just wish that he was still involved in the project because it looks like he had a lot to offer, we want more james!! Oh yeah! good luck with the film hope you manage to raise a shed load of cash for the cause.

Wish Craft wrote: Wed, 31/05/2006 - 19:35

If you read what is said, you'll find that there isn't much sense made at all by most of this comments section, it is just a group of random comments made at the time.

The thing that did happen between anybody has nothing to do with the movie and nothing to do with the comments. The actors met everybody, so they are able to judge how things went.

The comment made about 'the truth about how I got the equipment' was a low blow, because Simon knows the trouble we had getting the equipment. Why not ask me what you said? Simon was claiming that I lied to get the equipment. This is not the case, I told Flophouse Films that we were making a film to raise money for the Piam Brown childrens cancer ward and we are, um, oh yes, making a film to raise money for the Piam Brown childrens cancer ward. Is that clear enough? It may have confused people the way it was asked above, so there it is all cleared up.

We would like to thank everybody for making this the third most popular section on the website, it is great that you have helped with our marketing campaign.

We would also like to thank everybody who have given positive comments on here. As film makers know, it is tough making the first feature and it is great to know that there are people who understand this.

edeverett wrote: Wed, 31/05/2006 - 22:57

I've updated the production diary with Wish's overview of the the filming of The Board. Read it here

It's essential reading for anyone who's been following this and of course any filmmakers thinking of starting their first major production.

Good luck to everyone involved with the film and I hope your premier goes smoothly!
