John Woodwood, UK Film Council CEO, has been notified that Lottery cash for film has been safeguarded over the next 10 years. Tessa Jowell will announce today that from next year £3 million a year will be transferred from Arts Council England to the UK Film Council to be ploughed back into film activity.
This follows a reappraisal in which Film received a bigger endorsement than any other 'good cause', with 8,000 responses to an enquiry supporting Lottery funding for the industry.

That's good news! There's been a bit of a rant ("here:http://ukfilm.org/news/new-development-fund) on funding in the UK, so it's good to know that an extra £3m is being invested! Hopefully in some marketing!!!

Unfortunately, I can't imagine that 3M will be able to stretch further than covering the costs of developing a few scripts. Of course its great, and essential that new talent gets the chance to break out; but that's really all the government is supporting, and the state of the industry is unlikely to change unless drastic changes are made on the business side of things - and that's something that the government appears unwilling/uninterested in doing. Unlike in France eh Zara?
