Hi all,

I'm sure many of you know about the Red One Camera by now (I go on about it often enough!) Just wanted to point people in the direction of a Forum for UK Users who are interested in developments:

SkyCam in the UK?

Hi,

Does anybody know where I can hire a SkyCam / SpiderCam / generic cable-suspended camera in the UK and how much they cost? I'm pretty sure that such a system is available in the UK because I overheard someone saying "yeah, I work for a company that hires out cable-suspended cameras like the SkyCam" in the toilets at a short film night a few years ago and everytime I think of that evening I always kick myself for not chatting to the guy. Cable-suspended cameras are cool; that's all there is to it. I want to play with one! If they're too expensive to hire then I'd seriously think about trying to build one.

Encoding as flash

Hi all,

I just like to point out this website which pretty much answered all my questions about encoding video as .flv : it lets you compare the different encoding options side by side. So as I'm preparing some graphic animation I'll use the On2 codec.

RED Digital Cinema Camera

Hey everyone!

Exciting stuff is about to happen - the revolution gains momentum on Monday with the unveiling of the RED 4k Cinema Camera at NAB.

Yes, that's 4k as in resolution (4520×2540) which is a MAJOR step-up from the current crop of Digital cameras (Genesis, D20 etc.) But what's really promising to be revolutionary is the price; the company has been set up by a mad American billionaire called Jim who owns a sunglasses company but wants to give the industry a "kick up the ass", so he's promising the camera will be "within reach" of normal people like us! He's been heavily marketing it towards DV users (the kind of people that would buy an HVX200 for example) and has promised it will be "significantly cheaper" than a Varicam or CineAlta.

Don't know if anyone has ever done this, but is there anyone out there who has ever bought a camera in the US and had it imported to the UK? If so, could you tell me how much the Customs Duty rate is for importing a Digital Video Camera at the moment?
