Hey everyone!
Exciting stuff is about to happen - the revolution gains momentum on Monday with the unveiling of the RED 4k Cinema Camera at NAB.
Yes, that's 4k as in resolution (4520×2540) which is a MAJOR step-up from the current crop of Digital cameras (Genesis, D20 etc.) But what's really promising to be revolutionary is the price; the company has been set up by a mad American billionaire called Jim who owns a sunglasses company but wants to give the industry a "kick up the ass", so he's promising the camera will be "within reach" of normal people like us! He's been heavily marketing it towards DV users (the kind of people that would buy an HVX200 for example) and has promised it will be "significantly cheaper" than a Varicam or CineAlta.
As well as "Mad Jim", the company has on-board Ted Schilowitz who until recently headed up AJA (who make Kona capture cards) and Graeme Nattress (who some of you may know from his Final Cut Pro Effects). If this thing takes off, it could really level the playing field between the "Indie" and "Studio" film worlds.
Just to re-cap - this is a camera that will make the equipment used by Lucas/Rodriguez/Cameron et al. look like toys in comparison, and is targetted at filmmakers like YOU!
So, if it's all right with Jack and everyone, I'd like to invite you over to www.redcamera.net to discuss it. Let the revolution commence!
