Oscar aftermath

LL

Even if you're sick of hearing about the Oscars (or especially if you're sick of it) it's worth reading this account of the ceremony by Annie Proulx, author of BROKEBACK. It's caustic.

I also liked John Stewart's comment while hosting the ceremony:

"Hands up if you weren't in CRASH."

I wonder why it won.

"Hands up if you weren't in Crash."

Ha! Yes, it's an interesting tactic: win an Oscar with brute force by casting LOTS of actors who each in turn have LOTS of contacts and influence!

(That said, I did quite enjoy Crash)

LL

It was bold but flawed, in my humble (ahem) opinion.

Nice avatar, btw.

Yeah, I remember you mentioning that you had a few "issues" with Crash! Would you have prefered Brokeback to win?

LL

Yup. But it's not the end of the world!

I was in crash. I was the third car. Yes, that one. No, left a bit. Yeah, that's the one. waves oscar

Ha. I also like this contribution to the debate from Josh Olson, screenwriter of A History of Violence :
